FuriosaAI to develop next-generation semiconductor with Hugging Face

FuriosaAI, a local AI chip start-up, will develop a next-generation semiconductor to power large-scale language models such as ChatGPT with Hugging Face, the fabless chip designer said Wednesday.

Hugging Face is a New York-based app-building tool developer. Hugging Face’s Transformers library provides tools to download and train pre-trained AI models.

The two companies are jointly developing a service to optimize Transformer-based AI models to the next-generation AI chip.

FuriosaAI completed the design of the chip and plans to begin manufacturing using a 5-nanometer process in the first half of next year.

“In close collaboration with Hugging Face, we will develop a globally competitive product by considering the AI models that would be powered by our AI chip in the designing process,” said FuriosaAI CEO June Paik.

Furiosa AI is currently producing Warboy, its first-generation AI chip designed for high-performance computer vision.
