LG Energy Solution CEO Kwon Young-soo was named as the new chairman of the Korea Battery Industry Association (KBIA).

Kwon's term started Thursday and lasts for three years.

Kwon replaced Jun Young-hyun, vice chairman of Samsung SDI.

"Amid these economic uncertainties caused by supply chain collapse, the role of the association has never been more important," Kwon said during an inauguration ceremony at JW Marriott Hotel Seoul in southern Seoul.

"With cooperation with the government, KBIA will exert all efforts to grab leading position in global market by improving regulations, funding technology development and discovering new businesses."

Established in 2011, KBIA has around 150 Korean battery makers and material companies as members including Posco Chemical and EcoProBM.
