Actor Kim Sae-ron fined 20 million won for driving under the influence

Actor Kim Sae-ron was given a 20-million-won ($15,300) fine for driving under the influence.

The Seoul Central District Court fined the actor booked for drunk driving on Wednesday.

Kim was caught driving under the influence when she damaged several lampposts and guardrails in Cheongdam-dong of Gangnam District, southern Seoul, on May 18 last year. Kim also crashed into an electric transformer, cutting off electricity to 57 nearby cafes.

Her blood alcohol level was 0.2 percent when the accident happened, exceeding the driver's license suspension limit of 0.08 percent.

Kim had claimed she was living in destitution when prosecutors demanded the 20-million-won fine on March 8. She was reportedly seen playing poker at a bar in Gangnam District several times before the court ruling.
