Government to create one-stop website for services

The government will establish a one-stop website for online administrative services currently scattered across multiple websites by 2026.

On Friday, the Presidential Committee on the Digital Platform Government held a debriefing session at the Blue House's Yeongbingwan state guest house in central Seoul to outline its plan to set up an integrated digital government platform, a national policy agenda item.

The strategy's announcement comes seven months after the presidential committee was launched.

The Yoon Suk Yeol administration’s digital platform government initiative aims to set up an integrated portal to streamline some 1,500 types of digital administrative services provided by different government agencies through separate online channels.

“The vision that the digital platform government hopes to realize is where data and information are integrated into and shared through a single platform,” said the president in his remarks during the Friday event.

“If information needed by each government agency can be shared and integrated, a great synergy would be created,” stressed Yoon, adding that the project would create a number of new jobs and opportunities in the artificial intelligence (AI) and software industries.

The government forecast that about 2 trillion won will be saved a year by 2026 if the service is implemented as planned.

That day, the Ministry of Science and ICT on Friday released its plan to bolster Korea’s large-scale AI capabilities in a press conference with the Presidential Committee on the Digital Platform Government and Personal Information Protection Commission.

Amid an intensifying global AI race, the ministry is pouring 390 billion won in expanding technological and industrial infrastructure to develop large-scale AI and improve AI-related regulatory frameworks.

“Korea is one of four countries that have a self-developed large-scale AI platform,” said Lee Jong-ho, Minister of Science and ICT, Friday.

“In order to boost the digital economy, we plan to penetrate the global market beginning with non-English speaking countries, using our strength in Korean language-based software,” said Lee.
