The LG Twins have tied with the SSG Landers in first place after winning both their series over the last week, while the Lotte Giants drop down to third after a tough weekend of games.

The Twins started their week off with a 12-7 loss to the last-place KT Wiz, but quickly rallied to win the remainder of that series, 7-3, 9-5.

The Twins had another easy fixture over the weekend, taking on the ninth-place Hanwha Eagles at home at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in southern Seoul. The Twins took a 3-1 win on Friday and a 4-1 win on Sunday to take the series, with neither team able to snap a 1-1 tie on Saturday.

The Landers took on the Giants over the weekend in what was a clash between first and second when the series started.

The Giants took game one 7-5, briefly knocking the Landers down to third and taking the top spot for themselves. The Incheon club quickly rallied, winning 5-0 on Saturday and 6-3 on Sunday to take the series and reclaim first.

The Giants had a more successful midweek outing, beating the Eagles two games to one with a 3-1 win on Tuesday and a 7-3 win on Thursday. The Eagles took Wednesday’s game 2-1, but could not pull through when it counted in the rubber match.

The Landers split their midweek series with the NC Dinos, who now share fourth place with the Doosan Bears. The Dinos took the opener 5-3, with the Landers rallying for a 4-0 win on Wednesday. Thursday’s game was canceled.

The Bears won their midweek series against the eighth-place Kiwoom Heroes, winning 4-1, 9-6 before the Heroes were able to rally and take the third game 7-3.

Moving into the weekend, neither fourth-place team was able to expel. The Bears lost their weekend series to the Wiz — 1-6, 6-0, 3-7 — and the Dinos dropped theirs to the seventh-place Samsung Lions — 4-5, 4-3, 2-1.

The sixth-place Kia Tigers were the only other team alongside the Twins to win both their series over the last week.

The Gwangju club beat the Lions 7-2, 7-6 with a cancelation on Thursday, and then cruised past the Heroes, 10-1, 3-2, 0-1 to round off the week’s action.

The last week’s action saw half the clubs on the KBO table pass the 40-game mark as this year’s season remains in its infancy, although there is still a huge disparity between the number of games played.

The first place Landers and Twins are also two of the teams to have played the most games so far this season, at 41 apiece. The third-place Giants, on the other hand, have played five fewer games so far.

The Dinos and Bears split fourth, but the Dinos have a game in hand, at 39 to Doosan’s 40. The sixth-place Tigers, meanwhile, are in the same boat as the Giants, with only 36 games played so far.

At the bottom of the table, the Lions have played 38 games, the Heroes a league-leading 42, the Eagles 40 and the Wiz 39.

All 10 clubs will have a chance to add some more games to those counts on Tuesday when the KBO resumes with a first-place playoff between the Twins and Landers at Incheon SSG Landers Field in Incheon.

The Giants will take on local rivals the Dinos in Busan, while the Bears host the Lions at Jamsil. The Heroes head south to face the Wiz in Suwon, Gyeonggi, while the Tigers head north to take on the Eagles in Daejeon.

Moving into the weekend, the Bears will host the Landers at Jamsil, the Wiz and Lions will face off in Daegu, the Eagles will take on the Dinos in Changwon, South Gyeongsang, the Twins visit the Tigers in Gwangju and the Giants and Heroes face off at Gocheok Sky Dome in western Seoul.
