Actor Song Hye-kyo, alongside Sungshin Women’s University professor Seo Kyoung-Duk, donated 10,000 copies of guidebooks on the Korean independence movement in time for the 78th Liberation Day.

Song donated the guidebooks to the Center for Korean Studies at Hawaii State University so that visitors can find their way around independence movement sites on the island, according to Seo on Tuesday. Tuesday, or Aug. 15, is Korea’s Liberation Day.

The guidebooks include an overall description of the Korean independence movement in Hawaii and introduce multiple locations related to the movement, including the Oahu Cemetery, in detail.

“In celebration of the 120th anniversary of Korean immigrants to the United States this year, we published a guidebook introducing the historical sites of the Korean independence movement,” Seo said in a press release. “Koreans' continued interest in and visits to these sites will be the greatest force to preserve the remains of the independence movement.”

Song has supported the project of donating Korean guidebooks and signboards to 34 overseas Korean historical sites for the past 12 years.
