The Hanok Pavilion “Jitda (Build)” installed at Songhyeon Green Plaza, located next to Gyeongbok Palace in central Seoul, lights up for the opening ceremony of the 2023 Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism on Friday. Architect Jo Jeong-gu designed the pavilion to incorporate recycled pieces of the framework used to build hanok, or Korean traditional homes, to make sure the event creates zero waste.

Under the theme “Land Architecture, Land Urbanism,” the event's fourth edition is led by architect Cho Byoung-soo. By engaging in various discussions and introducing new studies and exhibitions, Cho said he hopes to draw up a 100-year masterplan for Seoul with the citizens, during the event that will last until Oct. 29.
