The search engine is based on the internet giant’s large-scale language model HyperCLOVA X. It is the second service based on the tool, following AI chatbot service CLOVA X launched last month.
Naver claims Cue: offers credible and intuitive answers to users’ questions through its “multistep” reasoning technology, which takes questioners through the logical steps it took to form answers.
For example, if you ask Cue: about plants suitable for beginner gardeners to grow in a one-room studio, the AI service gives a list of its searches, such as plants suitable for one-room studios, their pros and cons and how to manage them, as well as a list of referenced sources and potential follow-up questions.
“User can logically follow how the service came up with answers, which makes them more credible,” Naver said in a release.
Naver thinks its array of affiliated online services such as Naver Shopping and Naver Pay will boost the AI search engine's user experience.
If the user queries how to cook a certain dish and where to buy the ingredients, Cue: provides the recipe and lets users shop for groceries through its Naver Shopping service on the same Cue: domain.
Users may also make reservations at restaurants using the Naver Place service.
“It allows users to do different things quickly and easily without additional searches,” Naver said.
Cue: is currently available as a closed-beta version on PC with a Naver ID.
The service's official launch date has yet to be announced.
“Naver is a one-and-only platform that possesses massive global content and services,” said Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon.
“Naver will not lose its leadership in the face of the generative AI era.”
