G-Dragon to voluntarily appear before police for questioning

G-Dragon handed in a letter of intent for a voluntary appearance before the police, reiterating that he "did not use illegal drugs," according to his legal attorney on Monday.

"Kwon Ji-yong did not use illegal drugs, as we have already stated," his attorney Kim Su-hyeon at law firm K1 Chamber said in a press release the same day, referring to the singer by his birth name.

"He handed in his letter of intent to voluntarily appear at the Incheon Police Agency after appointing his legal attorney this morning.

"He has expressed his intentions to diligently cooperate with police investigations, such as giving body hair and urine samples in order to clear out the truth," the attorney added.

G-Dragon is working out a schedule for questioning, the attorney said.

Reports have been pouring out since last Wednesday as the Incheon Police Agency revealed that it has opened an official investigation into G-Dragon concerning illegal drug use.

It had been rumored that G-Dragon paid a large amount to appoint a lawyer who had served as a former Constitutional Judge in order to get an upper hand in the questioning procedure, which attorney Kim strongly denied as false and warned that legal measures would be taken against those spreading false rumors.

G-Dragon had been questioned for marijuana use in 2011 by the Korean prosecution, but his indictment was suspended after he confessed to inhaling the substances unintentionally.

The K-pop star debuted as a member of the boy band Big Bang in 2006 under YG Entertainment. The boy band saw sensational success throughout the late 2000s and early 2010s. His exclusive contract with YG Entertainment ended in June 2023.
