The veto came immediately after the DP passed an impeachment motion against two prosecutors, including one who, until recently, was leading an investigation against the party’s leader, Lee Jae-myung.
This is the third time that President Yoon has shot down bills that the DP passed by using its majority power at the National Assembly.
The four legislations that were vetoed on Friday include the pro-labor bill dubbed the “yellow envelope law,” which limits companies from making financial claims against union members for damages caused by union strikes including property damages and obstructing business.
The other three were broadcasting stations’ reform bills that aimed at expanding the participants, including labor union and civic groups, who could choose the top management of public broadcasters such as KBS and MBC.
The president’s veto came three weeks after the DP had pushed the bill through the National Assembly, a motion in which the president’s PPP party did not participate.
The bills come on the heel of the escalating tensions among political parties due to the upcoming parliamentary election in April next year.
