Cases of overheated iPhones billowing large amounts of smoke have been reported twice in a span of three months.

One case showed an iPhone 13 inflating and letting out large amounts of smoke at a high school classroom in Cheonan, South Chungcheong, on Thursday, in a video taken and uploaded by the phone owner's friend on Friday.

Smoke came out of the phone for two minutes, then stopped. It did not lead to a fire.

School staff opened the classroom windows to let the smoke out and evacuated students.

The video has since garnered over 10 million views.

Apple Korea promised to give the student a new device of the same model in exchange for the broken device, according to the student.

A similar case happened on Oct. 25 at a middle school in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi, when a student’s iPhone 13 mini started heating and smoking. The student immediately placed the smoking phone on the ground and stayed away, according to Yonhap.

The smoke continued to come out for around three minutes but did not lead to a fire.

The middle school student’s mother was quoted as saying that the phone had only been in use for three weeks. The student had been holding the phone when it suddenly began to heat up and smoke and ended up burnt black.

The student received a new device from Apple.
