The exhibition, "Perfectly Imperfect: Korean Bucheong Ceramics," opened on Sunday and will last for two years at the museum's William Sharpless Jackson Jr. Gallery and the Korea Gallery on level 5 of the Martin Building until Dec. 7, 2025.
The exhibition is also the first after the National Museum of Korea and the Denver Art Museum signed an agreement to support the Denver Art Museum's Korea Gallery in December 2022.
Bucheong, a form of Korean gray-blue powdered celadon, was popular during the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910).
The exhibition will showcase 123 items of Korean buncheong ceramics, ranging from those made during the Joseon Dynasty to modern works.
The collection consists of ceramics owned by the National Museum of Korea, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, private galleries and artists.
The collection includes those donated by the late former Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-hee.
The National Museum of Korea plans to use the Denver Art Museum's Korea gallery to introduce traditional Korean art and as a stage to show the present Korean culture, it said in a press release.
It is also slated to present various programs, including special exhibitions and joint projects with current Korean modern artists, starting with this exhibition.
