The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) launched an online art research platform on Wednesday.
Called the MMCA Research Lab, the service offers information on contemporary Korean art, spanning from the period after Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule in 1945 to the present day.
Anyone can browse through the timelines of Korean art history as well as essays and research by experts. A glossary section is also provided which details key figures, groups, institutions, exhibitions, terms and publications that were mentioned in the timelines.
There are 654 timeline entries, 62 essays, some 400 art terms and 1,000 visual aids on the site in both Korean and English.
The MMCA Research Lab will continue to expand its content, the MMCA said in a press release. A seminar is set to take place sometime in March to explore the creation process of the research lab and receive feedback from the audience at the MMCA’s Seoul branch in Jongno District, central Seoul.
“We hope that the MMCA Research Lab, which took a lot of effort to develop from collaborations between various fields, will be beneficial in studying contemporary Korean art for not only local and foreign experts but also the general public,” Kim Sung-hee, director of the MMCA, said in a press release.
