The beauty that Celebrities made [Photo Essay Contest]
The Korea JoongAng Daily hosted its first photo essay contest for elementary, middle and high school students on the theme: “Promote the beauty of Korea to foreign countries." The contest ran from October to November. Photos containing scenes of traditional culture, family love, places to see and tasty treats in Korea were submitted for the contest.
For people who participated but didn't win a prize:
Nayule Sim from Chadwick International submitted the following photo essay as a elementary school-level entry.
A lot of people think that the beauty of Korea is related to historical things such as Hanbok or Hangul. I also think that these two are very important beauties that we can’t forget. However I think the new beauty that is coming up are celebrities. After the Korean wave came, celebrities became famous not only in Korea but all around Asia. The personal connections that I had with this was that I personally liked listening to K-pop music and I really liked that not only K-pop stars but people like actors also became really famous. I think that celebrities made really good progress and showed new form of beauty. Since I already enjoyed listening to K-pop songs, I was able to enjoy how K-pop developed enough to show a new beauty.
Giving an brief explanation about the photograph, in the photo there are pictures of idols that are really famous right now. I think that these girl groups made good effects especially with albums. Websites like in TikTok and Youtube there are people unboxing their albums. In these websites Koreans started to upload unboxing their albums. Which actually made a huge boom in these applications. Idol fans from all around the world started buying albums and did the same thing. I think that this also caused an good effect on promoting beauty so I chose this as my photograph.
Going over to cultural significance. Did you know that K-pop’s history started a long time ago? K-pop was famous only to Korea then. However after more K-pop groups came out they were able to be known not only in Korea but other countries. Similarly with acting, the Korean acting scene developed as there were more people who dreamed of becoming celebrities. These dreams inspire others, even people outside of Korea. Korea’s way of promotion has made a good arrival point for people to dream.
Personally my dream is to become a celebrity and I got my dreams also from current celebrities. I like to perform and make people look very happy so I want to be a person that could also make a person be entertained later on and share the beauty with people in new generation. I want people to be happy and think of not only the facial beauty but the beauty of the actions the celebrities are doing to make people happy.
In conclusion, There a lot of elements in current that are really famous such as Kimchi, K food etc. However I think we need to think Korean waves, and celebrities as our new culture also. A lot of cultures developed in society and I hope that more could be added generation by generation.
