Woodz to join Army band in January for mandatory service

Singer-songwriter Woodz will begin his mandatory military service on Jan. 22, joining the Army band, his agency EDAM Entertainment said Monday.

"Woodz recently received a letter of acceptance [for the Army band] from the Military Manpower Administration, thus will be joining the Korea Army Training Center on Jan. 22, 2024," the agency said in a press release.  
 
"Woodz will complete his basic military training and serve as a member of the Army band. The exact time and location for his training camp admission ceremony will not be revealed," it added. " There will be no ceremony [for Woodz] on Jan. 22."  
 
"We would like to ask for warm support for Woodz, who will complete his service and return ]more mature]."  
 
"I will, not as Woodz, but as Cho Seung-youn, a young man, will complete my mandatory military service," Woodz said in a fan cafe post to his fans on Sunday.  
 
"I will return in an even healthier shape, and I hope you stay healthy and happy as I complete my military service," he said.  
 
Woodz debuted as a member of boy band UNIQ in 2014 and started his solo career in 2018. He is currently on his encore world tour "OO-LI and," performing in Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States and more.  
 
Woodz will drop digital single “Amnesia” on Dec. 18.
