New strategy for newborns

President Yoon Suk Yeol ordered a fundamental shift in policies to tackle Korea’s low fertility rates at the last Cabinet meeting of the year on Tuesday. Korea’s fertility rate was 0.78 last year, the lowest among the member states of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the second lowest in the world. According to Statistics Korea, Korea’s total population will decrease to 36.22 million by 2072, with more than half the population being older than 60. [YONHAP]
