A five-star luxury French hotel in Seoul is bringing Korean spice and zest to France’s emblematic pastry: croissants.

서울의 5성급 럭셔리 프랑스 호텔이 프랑스의 상징이라 할 수 있는 페이스트리인 크루아상에 한국의 맛과 열정을 접목해 선보인다.

In light of World Croissant Day on Jan. 30, Sofitel Ambassador Seoul in Songpa District unveiled its new line of croissants, dubbed Haute Croissanterie. This luxury-meets-puff-pastry collection includes classic French-style croissants as well as those that infuse iconic Korean ingredients like gochujang and Jeju mandarins.

1월 30일 세계 크루아상의 날을 맞아 송파구에 위치한 소피텔 앰버서더 서울은 ‘오뜨 크루와상테리’(* 패션에서의 오뜨 꾸뛰르처럼 고급 크루아상 판매점이라는 의미의 조어)라고도 불리는 새로운 크루아상 라인을 선보였다. 이 고급스러운 페이스트리 중에는 정통 프랑스 스타일의 크루아상에 고추장이나 제주 감귤과 같은 한국의 상징적인 재료를 넣은 제품이 포함돼 있다.

“Croissants at Sofitel are made with the traditional French recipe and premier ingredients while also maintaining innovativeness and modern style that will appeal to consumers today,” sous pastry chef Henry Kim told the press at the hotel on Tuesday.

부 제과사 헨리 김은 화요일 언론에 “소피텔의 크루아상은 전통적인 프랑스 레시피와 최고의 재료로 만들어지는 동시에 요즘 소비자의 관심을 끄는 혁신성과 현대적인 스타일을 유지한다”고 말했다.

Haute Croissanterie is a global event being held at Sofitel properties around the world, in celebration of the brand's 60th anniversary.

오뜨 크루아상떼리는 소피텔 브랜드 창립 60주년을 기념하기 위해 전 세계 소피텔 호텔 지점에서 열리는 이벤트다.

Head pastry chef Kim Yong-ho has been selected as a global ambassador for the project along with head pastry chefs from Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo in Panama and Sofitel Dubai The Obelisk in the United Emirates. The three locations are acting as pilot hotels for Haute Croissanterie.

A total of 30 Sofitel properties across the globe are set to launch their own Haute Croissanterie event later this year, each featuring croissants with their own local twists, which the hotel calls "cultural link" croissants.

There are seven croissants in Seoul's Haute Croissanterie collection, including three with a Korean twist: the floral Bom-bi Blossom (7,500 won or $6) reminiscent of the Korean spring's cherry blossoms, spicy Gochujang Galore (8,500 won) and zesty Jeju Bliss (7,500 won) with Jeju Island’s seasonal mandarins.

서울의 오뜨 크루아상떼리 컬렉션에는 한국적인 변주가 가미된 크루아상 3종을 포함해, 총 7 종의 크루아상이 있다. 한국적인 변주가 가미된 제품은 한국 봄의 벚꽃을 연상시키는 꽃무늬 봄비 블라썸 (7500원 또는 6달러), 매콤한 풍성한 고추장 맛(8500원), 그리고 제주도의 제철 감귤이 든 새콤한 제주 블리스 (7500원) 등이다.
