Medical school students nationwide plan to submit applications for leave en masse on Tuesday, following the government’s decision to increase the medical school quota.

According to the medical industry, a total of 35 medical school student representatives out of 40 schools nationwide held an emergency meeting Thursday night. Those who attended the meeting unanimously agreed to set Tuesday as the date to file for leaves of absence.

The collective action could be a critical juncture of the tension between doctors opposing the quota hike and the government pushing its decision.

Student bodies will hold a meeting on Friday to discuss further measures including options like boycotting their academic classes.
