Hundreds flocked to Everland to see Fu Bao for the last time on Sunday. Fu Bao, the first giant panda born in Korea, met with the public for the last time over the weekend at Everland, the amusement park in Yongin, Gyeonggi.

지난 일요일 에버랜드엔 푸바오를 마지막으로 보려는 사람들이 몰려들었다. 한국에서 처음으로 태어난 대왕판다 푸바오는 경기도 용인시 놀이공원인 에버랜드에서 지난 주말 마지막으로 관람객을 만났다.

Fu Bao appeared at the Panda World in Everland around 9:30 a.m. as camera flashes exploded and adoring fans called the panda’s name. She took her usual spot beside a pile of bamboo sticks and ate habitually, seemingly unaware of the fact that this was her last day meeting with the Korean public.

푸바오가 판다월드에 오전 9시30분쯤 나타나자 그를 흠모하는 팬들이 판다의 이름을 외치며 카메라 플래시를 터뜨렸다. 그는 대나무 옆 자기 자리에 앉아 여느 날처럼 이를 먹기 시작했다. 한국 관객을 만나는 마지막 날이란 사실은 눈치채지 못한 것으로 보였다.

“Today, March 3, is a meaningful day because it is the day that Le Bao and Ai Bao, Fu Bao’s parents, took their first steps in Korea,” zookeeper Song Younggwan told reporters. “It has been 1,322 days since Fu Bao was born here, and we would like to thank everyone for accompanying us on this journey.”

송영관 사육사는 “오늘, 3월 3일은 푸바오의 부모인 러바오와 아이바오가 한국 땅을 처음 밟은 뜻깊은 날”이라며 “푸바오가 태어난지 1322일이며 여러분께 이 여정을 함께 해줘서 감사하다는 말을 하고 싶다”고 했다.

“Yesterday, I sat quietly in the indoor room where Fu Bao plays and felt sad thinking that she can’t ride the play pole here anymore,” said zookeeper Kang Cheol-won. “I will never forget Fu Bao, who was the first friend I gave my heart to, for the rest of my life.”

강철원 사육사는 “어제 푸바오가 노는 내실에 조용히 앉았는데 푸바오가 더 이상 여기서 놀지 않을 것이라는 생각에 슬펐다”며 “친구였고 내 마음을 준 푸바오를 남은 일생 동안 잊지 않을 것”이라고 말했다.

Crowds of people waited as early as 3 a.m. in the morning to line up to see Fu Bao on her last day. People were running at top speed to reach Panda World when the gates to Everland opened in the morning.

푸바오를 마지막으로 보기 위해 많은 사람들이 이르게는 새벽 3시부터 줄을 서며 기다렸고, 오전엔 에버랜드의 문이 열리자마자 판다월드에 가기 위해 전속력으로 달렸다.

After her last day of being shown to the public, Fu Bao will be moved to a secured location within Panda World for a physical checkup and management before being airlifted to China.

관객 공개 마지막 날 이후 푸바오는 판다월드 인근 안전한 곳으로 옮겨져 신체 검사를 받고 중국으로 이송되기 전까지 특별관리를 받는다.

Under the agreement with China, all giant pandas, even those born outside of China, must be returned to China when they reach sexual maturity at the age of four.

중국과의 협약에 따라 중국 밖에서 태어난 대왕판다도 4세가 돼 성체로 자라면 반드시 반환해야 한다.

Fu Bao will be moving to China on April 3. Zookeeper Kang will be accompanying the giant panda on her flight.

푸바오는 오는 4월 3일 중국으로 이동하며 강철원 사육사가 비행에 동행한다.

“Through consultation with Chinese panda experts, we will make every effort to prepare in advance to ensure that Fu Bao can travel in a healthy and safe manner,” said Everland zoo director Jeong Dong-hee.

정동희 에버랜드 동물원장은 “중국의 판다 전문가들과 상의해 푸바오가 건강하고 안전하게 이동할 수 있도록 사전에 모든 준비를 완벽하게 하고 있다”고 말했다.

Everland Panda World will start screening a special video of Fu Bao twice a day at the amusement park’s indoor theater from Monday.

에버랜드 판다월드는 월요일부터 하루 두 번 놀이공원의 실내 극장에서 푸바오의 영상을 상영한다.

The 25-minute special video will tell the story of Fu Bao from the giant panda’s "point of view," including what zoo managers imagine Fu Bao would want to tell the zookeepers and fans.

25분 길이의 이 특별 영상은 동물원 관계자들이 푸바오의 시점에서 그가 사육사들과 팬들에게 하고 싶은 말이 무엇일까를 상상해 만든 것이다.

In addition, Everland is reviewing whether to hold a farewell event to see Fu Bao off with fans on April 3 when she departs for China.

이와 함께 에버랜드는 푸바오가 중국으로 떠나는 4월 3일 팬과 함께 하는 환송 행사를 검토하고 있다.

Fu Bao was born on July 20, 2020, at Everland to parents Le Bao and Ai Bao, pandas sent by Chinese President Xi Jinping in March 2016 as a symbol of friendship between Korea and China.

지난 2016년 3월 시진핑 주석이 한중 우호의 상징으로 보낸 판다 러바오와 아이바오를 부모로 둔 푸바오는 지난 2020년 7월 20일 태어났다.

Only weighing 197 grams at birth, Fu Bao grew into a healthy giant panda weighing over 100 kilograms under the care of her mother Ai Bao and the loving zookeepers.

태어날 당시 몸무게가 겨우 197g이었던 푸바오는 엄마 아이바오와 사랑이 넘치는 사육사들의 보살핌 속에서 100kg이 넘는 건강한 대왕 판다로 성장했다.

Fu Bao has two twin siblings, Rui Bao and Hui Bao, who were born at Everland in July 2023.

푸바오는 지난해 7월 에버랜드에서 태어난 루이바오와 후이바오 쌍둥이 자매를 동생으로 뒀다.
