Imported fruits are displayed at a large supermarket in Seoul on Feb. 18 following increased demand due to their relative affordability compared to domestic fruits.
Fruit prices rose at the fastest pace last month compared to overall consumer prices due to the abnormal weather conditions that led to a slashed harvest.
Prices of domestic apples surged 71 percent and domestic pears 61 percent compared to last month, but the government said they have no plans to relax import regulations on apples and pears.
