Hyundai Motor is recalling nearly 30,000 Genesis sedans from U.S. roads over possible risk of an engine fire.
A total of 28,439 Genesis G70s, G80s and G90s equipped with 3.3-liter six-cylinder engines are possibly affected by an oil leak that increases the risk of an engine compartment fire, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.
Exposure to high temperatures from engine components can cause the left turbocharger oil feed pipe to crack and leak oil into the exhaust manifold.
Documents filed with the safety authority indicate that drivers may be warned of a developing problem by white smoke, an illuminated engine oil pressure warning light or evidence of an oil leak.
Genesis dealerships will replace the faulty pipe with a new stainless steel part, free of charge.
Hyundai Motor America will notify owners starting from May 7.
Earlier this month, Kia recalled some vehicles for the same issue with the same engine. Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis all share the same corporate ownership and use some of the same parts and designs.
Lask week, Hyundai Motor and Kia said they are recalling around 600,000 EVs over possible sudden power loss, impacting some Ioniq 5s and Genesis GV60s. It will be the largest EV recall since 2021.
