Gocheok Sky Dome has been fully revamped ahead of the country’s first Major League Baseball (MLB) Seoul Series scheduled to take place next week.

다음주 열릴 첫 메이저리그 서울 시리즈를 앞두고 고척스카이돔이 완벽하게 수리됐다.

On Tuesday, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon visited the domed baseball stadium in Western Seoul to ensure that the venue was ready to host the first regular MLB season game in Korea. The revamp of the venue comes about eight years after the stadium was built in 2015.

오세훈 서울시장은 화요일(3월 12일) 서울 서쪽에 있는 야구 돔 구장을 찾아 장소가 국내에서 처음으로 열리는 MLB 정규 시즌 경기를 위한 준비가 다 됐는지를 확인했다.

"We expect all players to display their best abilities with the help of comprehensive refurbishment of facilities, from the grass to the lighting and even the locker rooms," Oh said as he inspected the stadium, expressing his hope that the MLB Seoul Series would become an annual event. “The interaction between the MLB and the Korean baseball scene has begun in earnest.”

오 시장은 스타디움을 점검하면서 “잔디부터 조명, 라커룸까지 포괄적인 시설 재단장을 한 만큼 모든 선수가 최상의 컨디션으로 최고의 기량을 발휘할 것으로 기대한다”고 말했다. 오 시장은 MLB 개막 서울 시리즈가 매년 정례화하길 기대한다면서 “MLB와 한국 야구계의 교류가 본격적으로 시작됐다”고 했다.

All 11,493 square meters (2.8 acres) of the grass field has been newly designed, now featuring two colors rather than one. The field was also revamped by cooperating with MLB's ground keepers, which included installing G-max shock absorbers.

잔디 구장 1만1493㎡(2.8 에이커) 전체를 새로 디자인했고, 단색이 아닌 두 가지 색을 썼다. 구장은 MLB 야구장 관리인들과 협업해 글로벌 수준의 충격흡수 잔디(G-max)를 설치했다.

The ground lighting, which was metal halide lamps, has been replaced with brighter LED lights, expected to be more energy-efficient saving. Additionally, 56 colored LED lamps have been newly installed to be used for different spectator events during the match, such as for home runs.

그라운드 조명은 기존의 메탈할라이드 등에서 고효율 친환경 발광다이오드(LED)로 교체했다. 여기에 56색 LED램프를 새로 추가해 홈런 등 다양한 상황에서 관중 대상 이벤트에 쓸 수 있도록 했다.

Other facilities, including the player lockers, cafeteria and sky boxes, have been refurbished, according to the city government.

A photo zone and garden have also been set up to entertain MLB Seoul Series spectators.

MLB 서울 시리즈 관중을 즐겁게 하기 위한 포토존과 정원이 조성되기도 했다.

The city government on Tuesday also promised to ensure that the games would take place in a safe environment by working closely with the Guro District Office, police and fire authorities. Some 150 personnel will be deployed for site control and four ambulances will be on standby.

이날 시는 관할인 구로구청, 경찰, 소방 당국과 긴밀한 협업을 통해 경기가 안전한 환경 속에서 진행될 것이라고 약속했다. 현장 인력 150여명이 배치되며 구급차 4대가 대기할 예정이다.

Over 100,000 spectators are anticipated to visit the venue, according to the metropolitan government.

서울시는 관중 10만여명 이상이 현장을 찾을 것으로 예측하고 있다.

"We will ensure that the crowd will be managed thoroughly during entry and exit to create a perfect game without any safety issues,” Oh said.

오 시장은 “입장과 퇴장 인파 관리에 만전을 기해 안전문제가 없는 완벽한 경기가 되도록 하겠다”고 말했다.

The MLB season kicks off in Seoul with a twogame series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres on March 20 and 21, with both games starting at 7:05 p.m. In Korea, the matches will be airing on Coupang Play.

이번 MLB 시즌은 각각 3월 20, 21일 오후 7시 5분에 진행될 LA다저스와 샌디에이고 파드리스의 2연전으로 개막한다. 한국에서 이들 경기는 쿠팡플레이를 통해 중계된다.

Seoul eagerly awaits the arrival of two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani from the Dodgers, along with the return of Gold Glove winner Kim Haseong and Padres pitcher Go Woo-suk who previously played for LG Twins.

서울 팬들은 LA 다저스의 슈퍼스타 오타니 쇼헤이, 골든 글러브를 수상한 김하성, 파드리스의 투수로 LG트윈스에서 뛴 고우석의 귀환을 고대하고 있다.

Both the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres will face the Korean national team ahead of the Seoul Series. Additionally, the Dodgers will play against the KBO’s Kiwoom Heroes while the Padres will play against the reigning KBO champion, the LG Twins.
