Moviegoers in Korea can expect to pay less for tickets starting next year.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said Wednesday that it will abolish a 3 percent levy that has been imposed on movie tickets, which is included in current ticket prices that average around 15,000 won ($11). With the levy gone, tickets will be around 450 won cheaper.

The 3 percent tax was used for development funds in the Korean movie industry. The Culture Ministry plans to replace that monetary support with government budget.

The ministry will implement the plan beginning on New Year’s Day.
