Lee Seo-hyun, chairperson of the Samsung Welfare Foundation and second daughter of the late former Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-hee, has been appointed as president of Samsung C&T, returning to the construction and fashion arm of the conglomerate after more than five years.

She will be in charge of strategy planning at the company that encompasses the construction, trade and fashion businesses.

"Lee is expected to contribute in raising Samsung C&T's brand competitiveness by utilizing her experience and know-how to bring success to Samsung's culture business and social contributions," Samsung Electronics said in a statement Friday.

The younger sister of Samsung Electronics Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong, a graduate of New York's Parsons School of Design, acquired management experience at Cheil Industries, which is now merged with Samsung C&T and Cheil Worldwide. From 2015, she served as the president of Samsung C&T's fashion division until 2018.

She then moved to the Samsung Welfare Foundation, Samsung Global Research and Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art.

She will maintain her positions as chair of the Samsung Welfare Foundation and director of the Leeum museum.

Lee's older sister, Lee Boo-jin, is the CEO of Hotel Shilla.
