“An accident occurred between a northbound train and a person who trespassed onto the railroad tracks,” the state-run train operator Korail said Monday morning. “Due to the accident, the person died, and we are currently clearing the area."
The person has later been identified as a man in his 80s, according to Korail.
As a result of the accident, one of the two railroad tracks has been closed, leading to a partial delay in train services as the area is being cleared up.
Trains were bypassing Hwaseo and Dangjeong stations, but regular service has resumed as of 9:15 a.m., Korail said.
The train operator said that it is looking into the case to determine the exact cause.
