Regional airports in Korea will see an expansion of flight routes to Asian destinations, including to Bali, Indonesia and Ulanbaataar, Mongolia, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said Monday.
The announcement comes after the distribution of traffic rights for 30 routes to 11 domestic airlines was decided at the air traffic committee meeting held last Friday.
Under the agreement, new direct routes to Bali from regional airports in Korea will be established.
Air Busan will operate four flights a week from Busan to Bali, while Jin Air will provide four flights a week from Busan to Jakarta, Indonesia. T'way Air will join in with three weekly flights from Cheongju to Bali. This move aims to address the limited accessibility and high fares faced by regional residents, as previous Bali-bound flights were only available from Incheon Airport.
Routes connecting regional airports in Korea to Mongolia's capital, Ulaanbaatar, will also be increased.
Jin Air will offer three weekly flights from Busan, complemented by Jeju Air's once-a-week service. Aero K and T'way Air will also contribute, each operating three weekly flights from regional airports to Ulaanbaatar.
In addition, Korean budget carriers will expand their reach to Southwest Asia and Central Asia.
Eastar Jet will introduce biweekly flights from Incheon to Almaty, Kazakhstan, while Jeju Air will fly to Uzbekistan three times a week from Korea. T'way Air plans to commence three weekly flights from Incheon to India's New Delhi and Mumbai.
