Baskin Robbins to launch ice cream flavor designed by Google Gemini

After ChatGPT, it’s Gemini — Baskin Robbins Korea will launch the "world’s first" ice cream flavor designed by Google’s large language model.

The new ice cream flavor, titled Tropical Summer Play, has a colorway inspired by the logo of Google’s mobile marketplace service, Google Play — which includes blue, yellow, red and green. Tropical Summer Play will launch next Monday.

Gemini did not choose the colors, but it did help select the ingredients.

“We asked Gemini to answer the ingredients that it thinks best matches the colorway, taking into consideration the popular search keywords in the summer season,” a spokesperson from Baskin Robbins Korea said.

This isn't Baskin Robbins Korea's first foray into AI. The country released Orange Early Grey in March, a flavor generated by its Baskin Robbins AI New Product Development system powered by OpenAI's ChatGPT.

A launch event for the new flavor will take place next Monday at the “Workshop By Baskin Robbins” store within the company's headquarters in Gangnam District, southern Seoul.

The store will start a “My Personal Flavor” event the same day, during which Gemini will recommend ice cream flavors to customers based on their Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, or MBTI, and current mood.
