The 2024 Korea Young Architect Award has been given to Hyun Seung-heon, CEO of Sunlab, Kim Han-joong, CEO of Ground Architects, and Cho Kyung-bin, CEO of Pildong2ga Architects, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said Tuesday.

The Culture Ministry praised Hyun’s works as helping to elevate the lives of the underprivileged, Kim’s creative use of materials like screws and bolts and Cho’s keen yet poised attitude toward solving architectural problems.

Since 2008, the Korea Young Architect Award recognizes budding architects and their works. This year’s recipients were selected by judges from the Korea Architects Institute, the Korean Institute of Architects and the Korean Institute of Female Architects.

The winners were chosen among 40 teams and were evaluated overall on potential, contribution to society, creativity and the completeness of work.

Three teams will be awarded a minister prize in a ceremony on Nov. 25 and will be given opportunities to hold exhibitions, publish books and participate in local and overseas architecture events.
