The price of cabbage has jumped this month in the wake of unusual monsoon inundation, which compromised yields. The price of cabbage climbed from around 5,000 won ($3.75) per head early in the month to over 7,500 won on Tuesday, 32.8 percent higher than an average year as the Chuseok harvest festival holiday nears.

The government has been releasing 300 to 400 tons of cabbage from its reserves daily to prevent a shortage and mitigate the burden of holiday expenses.
