For pregnant women in Seoul, no more waiting in line at major events

Pregnant women in Seoul will be able to avoid waiting in line at major events hosted by the city and will receive discounts at the city’s cultural and sports facilities.

서울에서 열리는 시 주최 행사에 임산부는 줄 서서 기다릴 필요 없이 바로 입장할 수 있게 된다. 또 시립 문화·체육시설 이용료도 할인된다.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government on Wednesday announced new measures for pregnant women, ahead of the country's annual Pregnant Women’s Day, which falls on Thursday. Starting in October, all pregnant women in the capital will be eligible for exemptions or discounts at sports facilities.

서울시는 임산부의 날(10월 10일)을 하루 앞둔 수요일(10월 9일) 새로운 임산부 지원 대책을 발표했다. 10월부터 서울에서 임산부는 체육시설 입장료와 사용료를 면제 혹은 할인 받게 된다.

Costs for classes and facility usage, such as at Gocheok Sky Dome in Guro District, northern Seoul, and Jamsil Indoor Swimming Pool in Songpa District, southern Seoul, will be discounted by 50 percent. Discounts will also be available for special exhibitions at the Seoul Museum of Art in Jung District, central Seoul. In addition, pregnant women will be exempt from entrance fees for tours at the Seoul World Cup Stadium in Mapo District, western Seoul.

서울시 구로구 고척돔구장과 송파구 잠실수영장 등의 사용료와 수강료는 50% 할인한다. 중구 서울시립미술관 특별전에서도 임산부를 위한 할인 혜택이 마련된다. 마포구 서울월드컵경기장 스타디움 투어 입장료도 전액 면제다.

Expectant mothers will also be offered fast-track entry to major cultural events hosted by the city, allowing them to avoid waiting in long lines.

긴 줄을 서서 대기할 필요 없이 임산부들은 서울시가 개최하는 주요 문화행사에 우선 입장할 수 있도록 했다.

Pregnant women will not need to carry pregnancy badges or maternity booklets to receive these benefits. Instead, they can simply use a verification card, which can be downloaded from the “Seoul Wallet” app.

임산부는 임산부 배지나 산모수첩 등 증빙서류를 지참하지 않아도 혜택을 받을 수 있다. ‘서울 지갑’ 애플리케이션에서 증빙 앱카드를 내려받아 쓰면 된다.

According to the city government, Seoul is the first locality in Korea to introduce this application-based card system. The card can be used up to six months after the baby’s due date.

시에 따르면 서울은 전국 최초로 임산부 앱 기반 카드를 도입했다. 카드는 분만 예정일로부터 6개월 이후까지 사용할 수 있다.

The city will also set up dedicated complaint counters for pregnant women at city hall and all 25 district offices.

Seoul has been implementing various measures to support pregnant women as the country continues to struggle with a persistently low birthrate.

한국이 지속적으로 낮은 출산율로 어려움을 겪고 있는 가운데 서울시는 임산부를 지원하기 위해 다양한 대책을 시행해 왔다.

Since July 2022, the city has provided 700,000 won ($520) in transportation subsidies to pregnant women. Last year, Seoul began offering 1 million won to households for postpartum care. Additionally, since July, the city has subsidized up to 500,000 won in medical checkup fees for pregnant women aged 35 and older.

시는 2022년 7월부터 임산부 교통비 70만원을 제공하고 있다. 지난해부터는 모든 출산가정에 산후조리 경비 100만원을 주고 있다. 이에 더해 지난 7월부터는 35세 이상 임산부에게 산전 검사비 최대 50만원을 지원한다.
