Swansea City midfielder Eom Ji-sung has been ruled out for six weeks with a knee injury he sustained during the 2026 World Cup qualifier between Korea and Jordan last week, the Championship club announced Wednesday.

"Eom has had a setback, and we'll begin the rehabilitation immediately,” Swansea manager Luke Williams said in a statement released on the club’s website on Wednesday. “He's in the best place possible now for us to help him recover. We're very pleased to have got him back here so quickly so we can begin that process.

“Hopefully he will be back on the pitch in six weeks, and we can help him make a full recovery without any long-lasting problems.”

Eom joined the Korean national team for the October international break and played as a substitute in the qualifier against Jordan last week, subbing in for Hwang Hee-chan who picked up an injury earlier in the game.

But the Swansea winger also sustained an injury later in that match and left the pitch.

The match against Jordan was Eom’s first cap for the senior Korean team since playing in a friendly against Iceland in 2022.

The Swansea winger displayed enough potential to put himself in consideration for a regular national team spot in the foreseeable future, but sealing the position would likely be competitive given that fellow Championship midfielder Bae Jun-ho of Stoke City also pulled off a strong performance for Korea after Eom was injured.

Eom’s injury comes during the ongoing 2024-25 Championship campaign where Swansea sit in 11th place on the 24-team table as of Thursday.

Eom, 22, joined Swansea from K League 1 club Gwangju FC ahead of the 2024-25 season and has played 11 matches and picked up two assists across all competitions for the Championship side so far this season.

Swansea next face Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
