GNP members Quit Assembly

The opposition Grand National Party(GNP) decided on September 17 to resign all its assemblymen in protest of the ruling National Congress for New Politics(NCNP)'s current absorption policy and oppression movement.
GNP held a general meeting in the National Assembly building and all the party members handed over their resignation forms to the floor leader and general secretary.
Party spokesperson Ahn Sang Soo said, 'Kim Dae Jung's administration is now oppressing opposition members disguising democracy in arresting our innocent members abusing prosecutors' power, so we concluded to fight against this unjustice.'
He added,'Members who are now abroad or sick in the hospital will render their resignation papers soon, and so far nobody has refused to submit it, which shows our solidarity.'
Lee Hoi Chang, GNP president and former presidential candidate who was defeated by Kim last year by just a 1% margin, emphasized 'I am fully ready to face opposition oppression and I myself am resolute to sacrifice my life if neccesary for justice.'
Concerning those members who recieved summons from the prosecutor, the GNP decided not to apply for the request, and will act for the party's order from now on.
In the meantime, president Kim made his opinion clear that the massive investigation concerning politics cannot be the object of compromise or negotiation and will keep going. He stressed that there should not be any confusion between the investigation and political duty.
