1st Order of Large Passenger Liner

Samsung Heavy Industries received an order for a large passenger liner for the first time in Korean ship building history.
Samsung announced on November 25 that it received an order for four large passenger liners, which can transport up to 1,000 passengers and 400 cars, for 320 million dollars from the Greece-based Minoan company.
A source at Samsung said, 'We can get a foothold in the high-tech and high value added ship building business by the winning of this order.' Until now, European ship builders have dominated the passenger liner market.
However, the entry of Korean ship builders including Samsung, Daewoo, and Hyundai is expected to spark competition in this market. In response to this, the European Union plans to fortify a 'ship building agreement' which 17 countries including Korea, Japan and European countries had earlier signed.
