NCNP Furious at Criticism from YS

The ruling National Congress for New Politics (NCNP) party harshly denounced former President Kim Young Sam for his recent criticism on the Kim Dae Jung administration.
The former president, often called by his initials YS, on December 28 criticized that some chaebol groups from 'a certain special region' are suffering from the 'Big Deal' propelled by the Kim Dae Jung administration.
YS went on further to say, 'Violations of human rights and the violation of freedom of speech, the pressuring of opposition representatives to switch parties to the ruling coalition cannot constitute democracy. If these kinds of maladministration continue, a 'grave situation' is inevitable.'
Regarding these remarks from YS, Chung Kyoon Hwan, the General Secretary of the NCNP, returned fire on December 29, by stating, 'It is totally unacceptable for the very person who is responsible for the IMF bailout to instigate those who are now suffering from the economic crisis that followed the IMF bailout.'
A source from the NCNP said, 'The NCNP or Chong Wa Dae's way of dealing with YS should be rethought because YS is trying to instigate regionalism without displaying any regret for his responsiblity for the ongoing economic crisis.'
He warned further, 'If YS keeps up this attitude, it is possible for him to be treated like former presidents, Chun and Roh, who were imprisoned after their retirements.'
However, Lee Kang Rae, Chong Wa Dae's top aide for political affairs who will visit YS to extend a New year's greeting, said prudently, 'First a confirmation is needed on the real meaning of YS's remarks.'
