Seoul Residents Come Out on Top in Information Survey

Not surprisingly, a recent survey revealed that Seoul residents have the highest technological and informational level of all regions in Korea.
According to the survey, Seoul residents' level of computer use for a variety of different tasks ranging from on-line banking to Internet use is higher than that of government officials including the Seoul local government.
However, technology and computer use inside the governments is being kept at almost equal levels.
According to a report called 'The Gap of Regional Information Levels' released on April 8 by the Hyundai Institute of Economic Studies, the Regional Information Index(RII) of Seoul is 169.47, the highest of all regions surveyed.
This figure is three times higher than the lowest figure, 55.82, recorded in Kwangju and the South Cholla Province regions.
The RII is calculated by considering three categories: governmental information level(GIL), social informationl level(SIL), and economic information level(EIL).
In case of SIL, the survey indicated that Seoul's 238.15 was four times higher than Kwangju and South Cholla Province's 52.43.
However, the GIL gap according to regions is less significant because Seoul's GIL is 125.05, while Kangwon and North Cholla provinces are 118.09 and 101.09, respectively.
