Actress- Minister"s Controversial Performance in Moscow

Son Sook, the new Minister of Environment, departed to Russia on a controversial visit with 20 players on May 26 to stage a play 'Mother' in Moscow.
The performance of the new minister, who is also an actress, is an unprecedented event in the political world. The newly appointed minister said before departure, 'I considered carefully the criticism I might receive performing at this time.' An agreement was made to appear in Moscow before the she was offered the new posting. 'I think keeping my promise is important. I apologize to my constituents and fellow cabinet members. I will concentrate on my new post as environment minister after I return.'
The performance is according to an agreement between Chongdong Theater of Korea and Takanka Theater of Russia. Takanka will stage Maxim Gorki's 'Mother' in Seoul in October.
Regarding the long-term contract with Chongdong Theater, the minister Son commented, 'I cannot perform while a minister so I will continue the performance later.'
The minister plans to start regular duty on June 1, after her return from Russia.
However the officials in the ministry as well as citizens said, 'Her performance in Russia is quite unreasonable.'
