Citizens Remember the Dead on Memorial Day
Many citizens made the journey to national cemeteries in Seoul and Taejon in order to remember those who died in the defense of the fatherland on Memorial Day, June 6.President Kim Dae Jung and his wife Lee Hee Ho participated in a commemoration ceremony held at Taejon National Cemetery at 10 am, along with 4,500 citizens including notables and bereaved families.
Prime Minister Kim Jong Pil, Ministers and 5,000 people attended a ceremony at Seoul National Cemetery.
The number of visitors at the two national cemeteries totaled approximately 330,000.
The roads near cemeteries suffered severe traffic jams, even though the government increased the bus service and diverted routes in order to reduce the numbers of cars.
