Few Diplomats Pay Parking Fines

Among the 1,100 cases of parking violations committed by diplomats as of the end of May this year, only 10 percent have been paid.
A source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said on November 1, 'The parking violations by diplomats' cars have increased to 2,000 cases in 1998 from 1,100 cases in 1996 and 1,400 cases in 1997.'
The source added, 'However, due to diplomatic immunity, there's no way to forcibly enforce the fines from diplomats. The government has requested all foreign diplomats, who are here as guests, to pay the fines at once.'
