Media Campaign for General Election Begins

Government and opposition parties will conduct radio and television speeches from March 16-27. As representatives from each party will participate, voter turnout is expected to be great.
Former Millennium Democratic Party (MDP) minister of Finance, and Economy Kang Bong-kyun, who is now a candidate for Pundang district A in the general election, will be the first television speaker. The opposition party intends to highlight the reality of Korea's debt situation as well as the results of the present government's effort to deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) crisis.
Grand National Party (GNP) Election Polling Committee chairman Hong Sa-duk and GNP Vice President Park Keun-hae will evaluate President Kim Dae-jung's political record, focusing on issues like national debt and increasing unemployment.
Representative Park Sung-bum's wife and Um Aeng-lan Shin Sung-il's wife are preparing surprise speeches which are already capturing voters' imagination.
Election Polling Committee chairman Lee Han-dong, vice presidents Park Chul-un and Shin Eun-sook, and representative Koo Cheon-seo will discuss the United Liberal Democrats' (ULD) so-called 'New Conservative line.'
