New MDP Platform Favors U.S. Forces after Reunification
Korea's ruling Millennium Democratic Party announced yesterday that it is in favor of U.S. forces remaining in the Korean Peninsula after the reunification of South and North Korea. Further, the MDP will assist in improving relations between North Korea and the U.S. It will also assist in North Korea and Japan relations."In order to keep abreast with this new period of reconcilliation and cooperation, the MDP will revise its party consititution, rules, and platform. All the revision will be made offical in the August 30 MDP convention." said, MDP Spokesman Park Byung-seok.
The revised platform is expected to advocate discovery of separated family members, the exchange of letters between separated family members, and regular separated family reunions. In terms of South Korea's foreign relations, the platform will also promote revision of the National Security Law.
As for the economy, the revised platform will promote the use of electronic banking such as automatic withdrawals and deposits, as well as the use of credit and debit cards, replacing the use of bank notes.
The MDP also plans to amend the consitutional law regarding the number of supreme committee members. The new law will prevent the official number of supreme committee members from exceeding 12, with the exception of the MDP president's right to appoint additional members in select cases such as political party mergers or reorganizations.
