Korea-U.S. Talks On Troops Are Set

Talks to revise the Status of Forces Agreement governing the 37,000 U.S. soldiers stationed in South Korea will be held in Seoul between Nov. 29 and Dec. 7, an official at the Minstry of Foreign Affairs and Trade announced Tuesday.

"South Korea and the U.S. will have working-level talks on Nov. 29 and 30," he said. General discussions will follow.

A deputy U.S. assistant secretary of defense, Frederick Smith, and the director general of North American affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Song Min-soon, will lead the main negotiation session.

The official said, "Jurisdiction over criminal cases will be wrapped up based on the draft last month, and both parties will do their best to write a joint draft on items such as environment, labor and quarantine."
