Kim Jong-il Sits In On Diva's Concert
North Korea's National Defense Commission Chairman, Kim Jong-il, attended a concert Wednesday by Kim Youn-ja, 42, a South Korean singer who performs mainly in Japan. The North Korean Central News Agency carried the report on Thursday.Mr. Kim attended the concert in Hamhung, the North's second-largest city, with party, administrative and military officials.
Ms. Kim went to North Korea on April 5 to participate in the annual April arts festival there. DPRK media also reported that Ms. Kim performed popular North Korean songs such as "Whistle" and "Nice to Meet You," and described the audience reaction in the gushing tones typical of North Korean favor.
Chairman Kim had asked former Culture and Tourism Minister, Park Jie-won, to help arrange Ms. Kim's visit.
