Prince Honors Korean War Veterans

Prince Andrew, Duke of York, helped commemorate on Friday in Pusan the 50th anniversary of the Korean War.

In the morning, the prince, Queen Elizabeth II's second son, attended a commemoration ceremony in which more than 1,000 Korean War veterans and their families participated.

Thomas Schwartz, commander of the United States Forces Korea, said in his commemorative speech that the sacrifices of the soldiers from the 22 United Nations member-countries that participated in the war for freedom and peace were noble.

In the afternoon Prince Andrew attended a ceremony honoring the service of soldiers from the nations of the British Commonwealth, and the unveiling of a memorial where the English warship "Providence" landed in 1950.

Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth II sent a letter saying that the devotion of the United Nations soldiers remains a proud and honorable thing to this day.
