Rail-linking supplies to be sent to North

Seoul will send the first shipment of equipment and material to the North this week to connect several inter-Korean railroads and roads.

The two Koreas agreed Sunday at Mount Geumgang on a list of material and equipment and procedures for sending them to the North.

The South will send 34 excavators, 27 bulldozers, a large number of construction trucks, eight passenger vehicles and 40 wireless transmitters.

Seoul will also provide 20,000 metric tons of cement, 9,000 tons of steel and 2,000 tons of diesel oil, government officials said.

The total package is valued at 45.9 billion won ($36.3 million), and is nominally in the form of a loan with a 20-year term and an interest rate of 1 percent.
