KTF expanding wireless, mobile Internet access

KTF Co. will make access to a wider number of Internet portals easier for its wireless and mobile Internet service and simplify billing, the company said yesterday. KTF, the nation’s second largest mobile communication service provider, will be the first in the industry to implement such a plan under the guidance of the Ministry of Information and Communication. Korea’s other mobile service firms, SK Telecom Co. and LG TeleCom Co., are expected to follow suit. KTF said, beginning next month, it will open its mobile Internet and wireless Internet to Web portals other than its original contractors and bill its mobile customers on behalf of Web portals. KTF has offered only Internet portals with whom it has contracts on its sites, called Magic n, for mobile Internet, limiting access to other Web portals. KTF will feature search technology and additional services to make the Web easier to use. With the opening of its services to other portals, Web users can more easily browse the Internet, the company said. To make billing more convenient for the portals, KTF will collect fees and send invoices to its mobile customers instead of each portal handling the accounts for services it provides to Internet users. SK Telecom and LG TeleCom announced yesterday that they will follow KTF’s mobile service plan, but unlike LG TeleCom and KTF, SK, the largest of the three, is required to receive approval from the ministry for the service expansion. by Limb Jae-un
