Roh, Chinese leader have first phone chat
President Roh Moo-hyun and Chinese President Hu Jintao talked by phone yesterday, agreeing that the three-way talks in Beijing were useful and that they would work closely together for a nuclear-weapons-free Korean peninsula.Song Kyoung-hee, the Blue House spokeswoman, said the president told Mr. Hu, China’s president, that he was happy that China and South Korea shared the same desire to disarm North Korea through negotiations.
The Chinese leader, according to Mr. Roh’s spokeswoman, assured Mr. Roh that China would work closely with South Korea toward a peaceful solution.
Mr. Roh extended his condolences for the Chinese people’s suffering because of the severe acute respiratory syndrome outbreak there. Mr. Hu has declared a “people’s war” against the respiratory illness.
