Daum begins shifting work to Jeju

Daum Communication Corp. said it would start moving some employees to Jeju, Korea’s southern island province, for a two-year test of their ability to work from there. The company said that if the test were successful, the company would move its headquarters there as well. “Daum will relocate its employees for the next two years,” a company official said yesterday. He said 55 employees would make the move before June and that 100 additional workers would be dispatched there next year. If they function without operational problems, the entire company will move. Daum’s headquarters is now in southern Seoul, where 800 employees, including contract workers, are located. Jeju’s provincial government reportedly promised tax benefits, free land use, financial incentives for capital expenditures and training and designation of the area where Daum will be based as an investment promotional zone. by Yoon Chang-hee
