Despite agency’s plea, Microsoft ends patch

Software giant Microsoft Corp. has rejected a request by Korea’s intelligence agency for a planned end to releases of security patches for an old version of the Windows operating system to be postponed, according to the spy agency’s cyber security team yesterday. The National Cyber Security Center, affiliated with the National Intelligence Service, said its request for Microsoft to extend the release of Windows 98 security patches were met with refusals. “Microsoft plans to stop releasing security patches for the Windows 98 operating system next June,” the security center said in an article on its Web site.
