China expands role in Korea tech sector

China is making increasing inroads into Korea’s high-technology market, a state-run think tank said yesterday. Chinese products accounted for 4.4 percent of Korea’s high-tech market in 2003, more than double the figure of 2 percent in 1999, the Korea Development Institute said. According to the classification of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the high-tech sector refers to office, computer, electronics, telecommunication and aircraft manufacturing equipment, the Korean institute said. But Korea still holds a comparative edge in the high-technology area over China, which has so far had little effect on the Korean sector, it added.
