Mobile phone maker will ship to Japan

Pantech & Curitel Communications Inc., a Korean mobile phone maker, said yesterday it has signed a deal to supply mobile handsets to a Japanese mobile service operator. Under the deal, valued at around 100 billion won ($103.6 million), Pantech & Curitel will supply its third-generation handset model A1306PT from September to the end of 2006 to KDDI Corp., Japan’s second-largest mobile operator following NTT DoCoMo Inc. The model has features appealing to those in their 40s and 50s. It will be sold in the Japanese market under a joint brand, Pantech-au.
